Community Programs
We are pleased to offer a helping hand to those in need through a range of proactive community service programs. The primary focus of each program, run by OG&E professionals, is to provide quality service to our communities and customers, helping to fill needs, and lend support to the best of our abilities.
For more information about any of these programs call 405.553.3642.
Cool Zones
This program helps people who need a cool place to go to avoid the heat and prevent heat-related illnesses. Each summer OG&E-designated Cool Zones are available throughout our service territory. These facilities may include libraries, shopping centers and senior citizen centers. Find a cool zone location in your area.
Gatekeeper Program
Our employees are trained to keep a watchful eye out for our customers by looking for subtle signs of trouble when working in the community or answering questions on the telephone. If a potential problem is noticed, our employees contact local designated agencies to quickly provide the proper assistance.
Some of the red flags that our employees are trained to look for include:
- Unattended newspapers or mail.
- A normally well-kept yard left unattended.
- Noticeable changes in the way a customer behaves or appears.
- Slurring, disorientation, or speech problems over the phone.
Lend-A-Hand
Lend-A-Hand gives you the opportunity to help those having trouble paying their utility bills by simply adding a few extra dollars with your OG&E payment when you check the Lend-A-Hand box. Your entire contribution will be forwarded to The Salvation Army which then distributes the money to help pay for electricity, gas, fuel or firewood for your neighbors in need.
For more information, please contact The Salvation Army office in your area. To locate the nearest office of The Salvation Army, call 405.840.0735.
Other Support Programs
In schools across Oklahoma and western Arkansas, we are helping develop young minds through several special programs like the Adopt-A-School program. Working with Adopt-A-School, OG&E volunteers help grade papers, tutor students and assist school libraries.
Helping make homes more comfortable with weatherization and home improvement through organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Rebuilding Together and The Salvation Army draws dozens of OGE employees who spend their weekend helping their customers.
