Environmental Sponsorships
We all love the benefits of growth and progress. However, it’s equally important to take responsibility for environmental risks this growth can cause. At OGE Energy Corp., we actively promote environmental education through activities such as:
- Mother Earth - an interactive program that uses science and environmentally focused lesson plans, began in 1998 as a youth environmental education program designed to teach elementary school children respect for the earth.
- Environthon – part of a national program for high school students designed to educate and challenge them in the environmental sciences. It serves to demonstrate the role people have in important environmental issues such as forestry, wildlife management, water quality, and soil erosion.
- Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program – a youth natural resource program dedicated to teaching wildlife and fisheries habitat management. Youth from 9 to 18 years of age participate in contests that aim to increase their knowledge of wildlife foods, judge the quality of wildlife habitat, recommend wildlife management practices, and develop a written management plan.
- Keep Our Land Grand – We help sponsor an annual contest for school children to design original anti-litter artwork for inclusion in the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s Keep Our Land Grand calendar. For contest information, contact the ODOT Beautification Office at 405.521.4037.
- ScienceFest Oklahoma – a day long outing at the Oklahoma City Zoo for school children to learn about the environment in general and alternative fuels in particular. In 2008, OG&E hosted approximately 5,000 4th and 5th graders from across Oklahoma.
