OKLAHOMA CITY
For National Lineman Appreciation Day, Oklahoma Gas & Electric Co. (OG&E) is celebrating its dedicated line crews across Oklahoma and western Arkansas. Hundreds of OG&E lineworkers serve the community each day ensuring every OG&E customer has reliable, and in some cases lifesaving, electricity to power their homes and businesses.
OG&E’s linemen delivered outstanding reliability in 2024, keeping the system running with 99.94% uptime and restoring power to 98% of customers within 24 hours of an outage. They also answered the call for help by deploying a company-record six times across seven states to support hurricane recovery through mutual assistance.
When severe weather strikes, our crews are quick to respond, often leaving their families at home so they can arrive on scene and restore electricity for your families and businesses in potentially dangerous conditions. Electrical work includes inherent risks, regardless of weather, and OG&E’s lineworkers continue to safely provide power to those who need it.
“One of our core values at OG&E is ’Live Safely,’ and all of our linemen take this commitment seriously,” said Todd Munson, an OG&E lineman in Shawnee. “We serve each day to make sure the lights are on so customers can live, work and play as we create and maintain a safe environment for our colleagues.”
OG&E’s crews are on the front lines of strengthening and securing the energy grid, ensuring customers across the 30,000 square mile service area have the electricity they need to power their homes and businesses.
“We energize life for our customers, but we also take care of them,” said Richard Dean, an OG&E lineman in Norman. “Whether it’s day or night, and in good weather or bad, we show up for the communities we serve.”
Ensuring reliable and resilient electric service is no small feat, especially in OG&E’s service area. According to FEMA statistics, Oklahoma and western Arkansas regularly rank among the top states for federally declared severe storms.
OG&E’s grid strengthening investments are paying off for customers through improved reliability. Thanks to technology and infrastructure investments along with our skilled team, customers experience fewer outages overall and recover faster during and after storms as we keep bills as low as possible. Our reliability-focused investments have resulted in a 40% reduction in service interruptions and a 30% reduction in outage duration in upgraded parts of our system since 2019.
OG&E invites the community to join us in thanking our line crews, and all line crews across the state and nation, for their selfless service and commitment to energizing our homes and our lives.
